LaBroad, 80, of 104 Sunapee a retired School Department worker, died Sunday in Baystate Medical Center. He was the victim of a fire. He was born in Woonsocket, R.I., and was a resident here for many years.

He was a graduate of the High School of Commerce. While there, he played on the baseball team and captained LABROAD the soccer and hockey teams. He was a communicant of St. Paul's Church, and was in the Elks Lodge and the John Boyle O'Reilly Club. Mary E.

Hietanen SPRINGFIELD Mary E. (Nicoll) Hietanen, 68, of 38 Endicott St. died Wednesday in Baystate Medical Center. She was a registered nurse, and worked for several years at BMC's Wesson Women's Unit and at Mercy Hospital. She also was an area private-duty nurse.

She was born here, and was a lifelong city resident. She was graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of. Nursing in 1947, and was a communicant of Holy Cross Church. She was a member and swimmer at the Jewish Community Center. Her husband, John Hietanen, died last year.

She leaves three daughters, Nancy H. Symanski of Redwood City, Joanne H. Harrington of Phoenix, and Susan Hietanen of Springfield, and three grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at Hafey Springfield Chapels and the church, with burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Robert D. Shea WELLS, Vt. Robert D. Shea, 60, of Wells, and formerly of Northampton, died Saturday at He was a forester and mill manager for Kelly Lumber Co. for many years.

Born in Northampton, he attended St. Michael's School there, and was graduated from the Stockbridge School of Forestry at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. A Navy veteran, he served aboard the USS Waldron in 1952-1956. He leaves his wife, the former Jeanette Gravelin; three sons, Matthew of Granville, N.Y., Peter of Manchester, and Thomas of Boulder, a daughter, Roxanne Lester of Virginia; his mother, Olive (Frenier) Shea, and brother, Dennis, of Northampton; two sisters, Jacqueline Shelnut of Woodbury, and Maureen Heon of Hatfield, two grandchildren. She taught previously for several years in the Springfield, public schools, and had several papers published in national and international education journals. She was born in Springfield, and received a master's degree in mathematics at the University of Georgia in Athens. She completed doctoral studies in mathematics education at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. -al. She belonged to the American Educational Research Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Research Council for Diagnostic and Prescriptive Mathematics.
