That's all folks

OK all.

That's your lot for tonight.

We'll be back in the morning with all the Deadline Day news, done deals and everything else you can think of from Old Trafford.

See you there!

Sancho 'offered to Dortmund'

United have offered Jadon Sancho to Borussia Dortmund, reports GiveMeSport.

Chelsea and Juventus are both pushing to sign the England international, though Dortmund are now in the frame to sign the winger.

The Bundesliga outfit are considering tabling a ‘last-minute rescue package’ to re-sign the 24-year-old after last season’s short-term loan deal.

20:42Alex Richards

Raheem Sterling latest

So tonight, the Independent reports that Arsenal are also showing an interest in Raheem Sterling.

Mirror Football understands that Sterling has been offered to Arsenal, with the Gunners still believed to be looking to add a wide attacking player to their squad before the transfer deadline.

But it is far from a given that they actually make a move. If Sterling is to stay in the Premier League and get a new club, it does seem like United is his biggest option.

Ivan Toney Update

So, Ivan Toney.

Linked with United and Chelsea. A move to Saudi too.

Brentford have confirmed he won't play at the weekend. So what's the skinny?

John Cross has the latest details

19:41Alex Richards

Here's Hojlund!

Well what do we have here?

Looks like Rasmus Hojlund putting in work.

He's not been seen so far this season, but he looks on course for a return soon - if not this weekend, then certainly after the international break.

18:26Alex Richards

Pogba unhappy with Evra

You may have seen quotes from Patrice Evra doing the rounds, talking about Graeme Souness and Paul Pogba.

It turns out Pogba isn't best pleased with some of Evra's rememberings, particularly the one about him saying he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or while they were team-mates at Juventus.

Sources close to Pogba insist he never expected or stated he deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.

He also rejects many of the claims made by Evra within the interview, which are either a distortion of the truth, or wholly inaccurate.

17:23Alex Richards

The Champions League Draw

Is happening right now.

And of course, United aren't in it.

But if you want to go check out the new format and who will meet who, then you can do so with us here.

If you have less than zero interest, then don't bother.

Simples.

Big injury blow ahead of Liverpool

Bad news for Erik ten Hag.

Mason Mount is OUT of this weekend's clash with Liverpool due to injury.

Mount has confirmed the news himself.

15:44Tom Victor

Ten Hag told to start Zirkzee

Erik ten Hag needs to start Joshua Zirkzee against Liverpool, according to former Manchester United striker Louis Saha.

“He’s a player that’s very interesting and gets involved in the right places," Saha told Betfred.

"I’d like to see his game improve with more minutes and confidence."

Zirkzee scored from the bench on his Premier League debut, but has played just 75 minutes so far for his new club.

15:15Alex Richards

Remember him?

Of course you do!

It wasn't that long ago, was it?

Well anyway, Wout Weghorst has completed his move from Burnley back to the Netherlands, where he's signed for Ajax.

14:17Tom Victor

Amrabat 'agreement' in place

Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce have a 'rough agreement' on a deal for Sofyan Amrabat, according to reports on the continent (via Football Espana).

They want the former Manchester United loanee in a loan-to-buy deal, but Atletico Madrid - pushing for a straight loan - are also interested.

United's move for Manuel Ugarte means their interest in bringing Amrabat back to Old Trafford appears to be over.

13:46Tom Victor

Sancho return 'always difficult'

Former Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham believes it was always going to be tough for Jadon Sancho to force his way back into Erik ten Hag's plans.

"After everything that happened between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho last year, it was always going to be difficult for him to resume his Manchester United career while ten Hag was in charge," Sheringham told Prime Casino.

"They haven’t kissed and made up, have they? It’s not a harmonious relationship between the pair of them; it can’t be.

"I don’t see it as a bed of roses in any sense whatsoever despite what has been said publicly. He hasn’t featured for United this season."

13:16Tom Victor

McTominay won't be joined by Gilmour

Napoli won't be partnering Scott McTominay with Billy Gilmour this season.

That's because Brighton now want to hang onto Gilmour following an injury to Matt O'Riley.

Summer signing O'Riley limped off less than 10 minutes into his debut and will require surgery, with no immediate timeframe on his return.

12:46Tom Victor

Sterling handed warning amid United links

Pundit and former footballer Tony Cottee has told Raheem Sterling he needs to be playing regular football if he wants to earn an England recall in time for the 2026 World Cup.

Manchester United have explored a move for the winger, who has been told he is surplus to requirements at Chelsea.

"You're not gonna [make the England squad] if you stay at Chelsea and you're training with the other 20 players who ain't got a position in the squad at the moment," Cottee, speaking in partnership with Altenar, said.

"That's not going to help. You don't want to go somewhere where you're not going to be a regular, so he needs to go somewhere where he's going to play.

"The wages are going to be a problem, we know that. But I would've thought Chelsea will contribute, and whoever buys or takes him on loan will pay £100,000 or £150,000 a week of his wages. He just needs to play football."

12:16Tom Victor

Final Europa League ties to be settled tonight

Manchester United will learn tomorrow who lies ahead in the Europa League.

This season's competition will be the first with a new league format, with 36 teams beginning the competition rather than 32.

A number of play-off matches will take place tonight, with Erik ten Hag's former side Ajax among those in action.

The Amsterdam club have a 4-1 first-leg lead as they welcome Polish outfit Jagiellonia Bialystok to the Dutch capital.

11:46Key Event

Will Manuel Ugarte play against Liverpool

Manchester United are expected to announce Manuel Ugarte in plenty of time for this weekend's game, but whether he's ready to feature is another matter.

Ugarte wasn't part of PSG's squad for the start of their Ligue 1 season, so may lack match sharpness despite playing for Uruguay at the Copa America earlier in the summer.

Fellow summer signing Matthijs de Ligt has been restricted to a couple of outings from the bench, and Erik ten Hag may wish to ease in the midfielder in a similar way.

11:16Tom Victor

Mazraoui opens up on Man Utd move

Noussair Mazraoui has spoken about the process behind his move to Manchester United and the wait he faced.

The Morocco full-back joined from Bayern Munich, but the move could only be completed once United sold Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham.

“When I heard the Manchester United option, I knew I wanted it," Mazraoui told Voetbal International (via Sport Witness).

"That immediately felt good, but I had to wait until they sold the other right back.

"You don’t just say goodbye to Bayern, but I was ready for something different."

10:46Tom Victor

Wonderkid Kone 'set to sign'

Malian teenager Sekou Kone could join United from Guidars FC today, according to L'Equipe (via Get French Football News).

It would be a first move to Europe for the teenage midfielder, who played every match for his country's under-17 team as they reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2023 at that age group.

Kone, 18, would initially link up with United's Under-21 squad.

10:16Key Event

McTominay flying out for Napoli medical

Scott McTominay is expected to undergo his Napoli medical today after flying out to Italy.

The Scotland midfielder will make a permanent move to link up with Antonio Conte's side.

His new team-mates will include former Ajax winger David Neres, who completed a big-money move from Benfica earlier in the window.

09:46Tom Victor

Hannibal makes losing start after United exit

Hannibal Mejbri was thrown straight into Burnley's starting XI last night after signing permanently from Manchester United.

The Tunisia midfielder, who has moved to Turf Moor for £5.4m plus add-ons, played the first 45 minutes against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

It was a debut to forget, though, with a Goncalo Guedes double sending the Premier League side through.

09:16Tom Victor

Raheem Sterling latest

There haven't been any new updates on Manchester United's pursuit of Raheem Sterling from the United side, but Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has laid out the state of play.

"We’re going to see. Because I prefer to be honest with the player, with Raheem, I’ve been exactly the same," Maresca told reporters when asked about the future of out-of-favour players, with Sterling just one of a number affected.

"The ones who are not involved, they are all players who are not going to be involved and they don’t get any minutes in case they stay.

"I don’t know what happens when the window closes. We will see who is here and who is not here. The only thing I can say is the ones who are going to get minutes are the ones who I think can help us.

"It’s not just Raheem. It’s all the players who in this moment are training apart. In the moment the transfer window closes, they are not going to get minutes. I’ve already been clear with them and honest and this is the only reason why."

08:46Tom Victor

Sancho 'holding out for Chelsea'

According to The Guardian, Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is still hopeful of moving to Chelsea this summer.

United's Dan Ashworth has been exploring a swap deal involving Sancho and out-of-favour Blues star Raheem Sterling, albeit with no luck so far.

"I know Jadon very well from many years with [Manchester] City," Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca told reporters before his team's Europa Conference League meeting with Servette.

"I know him very well. But he is not our player. We will see what happens.”

08:16Tom Victor

Alonso draws line under United links

Marcos Alonso won't be joining Manchester United this summer, having instead completed a Celta Vigo switch.

The former Chelsea left-back was discussed around Old Trafford amid injuries at left-back, but has instead stayed in Spain after leaving Barcelona in June.

Alonso has joined Celta on an initial one-year deal, with an option for a second.

07:46Tom Victor

Could Liverpool's Chiesa move help with Sancho deal?

Juventus have been among the clubs in the Jadon Sancho, and they could be about to receive a bit of a financial boost.

Juve, like many other clubs this summer, have been looking to offload players surplus to requirement. Federico Chiesa is one of those, with the Italian set to join Liverpool in a cut-price deal.

With one wide forward on the way out, might there still be time to add Sancho? That may depend on how desperate the United man is to stay in England, with Chelsea remaining keen.

07:16Tom Victor

When will Man Utd announce Manuel Ugarte?

Today is expected to be the day when Manchester United's Manuel Ugarte swoop is confirmed.

The Uruguay international is on his way from Paris Saint-Germain in a permanent deal, just 12 months after moving to the Parc des Princes.

His arrival means he will be eligible for Sunday's match against Liverpool, though his match sharpness is another matter.

06:46Tom Victor

United handed home draw in Carabao Cup

Manchester United will play Barnsley in the third round of the Carabao Cup after the full draw was completed on Wednesday.

It's a home tie for Erik ten Hag's team, who receive a bye to round three due to their European involvement.

Barnsley, who play in League One, beat Championship side Sheffield United to make it through.

Elsewhere there are a pair of all-Premier League ties coming up, with Liverpool hosting West Ham and Everton at home to Southampton.

06:16Tom Victor

Ugarte move shows state of Mendes relationship

Manchester United's relationship with Jorge Mendes might have appeared fractured following the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, but this summer indicates things have changed.

United failed to secure Ronaldo the Champions League move Mendes craved, with the forward instead moving to Saudi Arabia.

Now, though, Ugarte is poised to be the second summer signing represented by Mendes after an earlier deal for Leny Yoro.

06:12Tom Victor

Good morning

Hello and welcome back to Mirror Football's coverage of all things Manchester United.

Today could be the day Manuel Ugarte's move becomes official, while there's plenty of movement on other fronts too.

Stay with us for all the latest.

Sterling told to retire

Former Chelsea star Vinnie Jones has suggested Raheem Sterling should consider retirement after he was exiled by Enzo Maresca.

Although Manchester United are in talks with Chelsea over a swap deal involving Sterling and Jadon Sancho, Jones believes the winger should contemplate walking away from the sport altogether. "Sterling not being in the squad was a little eyebrow raiser," he told the Daily Mail.

"Everything comes to an end though and he's done all right." Jones retired from football in 1998 at the age of 34, with the footballer going on to forge a successful acting career.

And he believes Sterling could follow suit and retire early, adding: "He scored a few goals, and he might do a job for someone else, but he's had a fantastic career and if I was him I might think about going into something else.

"He must be financially set up for life. So, go and enjoy life. He's given the sport a lot in terms of England fans and at Liverpool and Man City. He's given a lot of fans a lot of enjoyment over the years and I don't like seeing top players like him drift down through the leagues."

13:17Matthew Cooper

Man Utd eye two loans

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are hoping to send both Sonny Aljofree and Elyh Harrison out on loan before the transfer window slams shut.

The club is said to believe the pair will 'benefit from a loan spell' and 'talks are progressing' over moves for both of them.

12:40Key Event

Man Utd enter Toney race

Manchester United have reportedly held talks over a potential swoop for Ivan Toney ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

The Red Devils are close to wrapping up a deal for Manuel Ugarte, who will follow Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui through the door.

And it has now been claimed that Manchester United have also held exploratory talks over a deal for Toney, who is expected to move on from Brentford in the coming days.

That's according to a new report from The Evening Standard, who believe that initial talks have been held between the top brass at Old Trafford and Brentford over a deal for the 28-year-old England star.

12:21Megan Feringa

Sterling complication

Manchester United and Chelsea are pursuing a blockbuster swap deal for out-of-favour stars Jadon Sancho and Raheem Sterling - but manifold obstacles threaten to stymie the deal.

A swap deal concerning both disfavoured wingers appears to appeal to both parties. Dan Ashworth is reportedly the driving force behind United's move to sign Sterling, with the Red Devils' new sporting director familiar with the former Manchester City man during his time in the England set-up.

However, the Daily Mail have reported that obstacles remain that could thwart the deal, including the £70million owed to Sterling in wages and bonuses for the remaining three years of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Offloading Sancho's £300,000-a-week salary from their wage bill is one of many key reasons behind United's attempts to push the winger on this summer. Thus, reaching an agreement with Chelsea over Sterling's financial settlement could prove challenging.

The Daily Mail also state that any deal struck would be driven by United's terms, and a player swap is "still an unlikely solution". However, with both clubs in need of a deal soon and the transfer window looming, the swap deal could prove to be the only tenable option.

11:44Dan Marsh

Ashworth's role in Ugarte deal

Dan Ashworth did not travel to France to thrash out a deal for Manuel Ugarte in order to oversee a number of Manchester United outgoings.

The Red Devils have finally struck an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for Ugarte, 23, after weeks of negotiations and the Uruguay international is expected to be United's fifth and final summer signing shortly.

It has since emerged that technical director Jason Wilcox flew out with Matt Hargreaves, United's director of negotiations, to iron out the final details on a deal which will see Erik ten Hag land his top midfield target in a deal which could reach £51million.

But United's new sporting director remained in Manchester to finalise exits for Scott McTominay, Hannibal Mejbri and Jadon Sancho, according to The Mail.

11:12Simon Mullock

Sterling's key trait

Peter Beardsley is the only player to have worn the shirts of Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City - so Raheem Sterling would be following in hallowed footsteps should he get to realise his childhood dream of moving to Old Trafford.

‌Sterling has been told in no uncertain terms that he is surplus to requirements at Chelsea - and with Jadon Sancho still out in the cold in Manchester despite agreeing a truce with United boss Erik ten Hag, it has been suggested that a swap deal makes sense for both clubs.

United’s first two games of the Premier League season has seen Ten Hag ask Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount rotate in the role of deep-lying striker. It’s fair to say, the plan hasn’t got the best out of either midfielder. It was only when Joshua Zirkzee came off the bench to score the winner against Fulham that United started to really threaten.‌

And in the 2-1 defeat at Brighton on Saturday, both players were substituted. United have got no shortage of talent in the wide areas, with Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo. Don’t forget, Ten Hag also has £95million winger Antony at his disposal.

‌But Sterling showed during his prime years under Pep Guardiola that he has the kind of versatility that Ten Hag needs.

10:25David Anderson

Hannibal joins Burnley

Hannibal Mejbri is excited to work under Burnley coach Scott Parker after sealing his permanent switch from Manchester United.

Mejbri has completed a permanent move to Burnley for an initial fee of £5.4milliom potentially rising to £9.4m. United have inserted a buyback clause in the deal, as well as an initial 50 per cent sell-on clause for the Tunisia midfielder.

Paris-born Mejbri played at Turf Moor last September in United’s 1-0 win and is looking forward to playing in front of the Clarets fans. “I’m very excited,” he said. “I’m very happy to be here and I can’t wait to see the fans.

“I’ve played against Burnley before at Turf Moor and the atmosphere was amazing. After speaking to the coach, the project sounded good to me and hopefully we can achieve success.”

Ronaldo confirms retirement plan

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he will retire within the next three years, but insisted he feels he still has unfinished business in the game.

Ronaldo has revealed he will call it a day within the next three years. But while some may have been hoping for one final return to Europe at boyhood club Sporting Lisbon, Ronaldo will instead be spending his final years at Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo told NOW: "I don't know if I will retire soon, in two or three years... but probably I will retire here at Al-Nassr. I'm very happy at this club, I feel good in this country too. I'm happy to play in Saudi Arabia and I want to continue."

09:30Matthew Cooper

Sterling a Man Utd fan

Raheem Sterling has previously admitted he was a "massive" Manchester United fan when he was growing up.

"I shouldn’t really say this — not now, definitely not now! — but when I was young I was a massive United fan," Sterling said back in 2019 when he was playing for Manchester City. "I had an old United kit, from when they won the last FA Cup."

09:01Matthew Cooper

No Chilwell plans

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are not considering a move for Ben Chilwell.

That is despite left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently being sidelined with injuries. United are said to feel confident that Diogo Dalot and Noussai Mazraoui can deputise for now, while teenage prospect Harry Amass has been promoted to the first team after an impressive pre-season.

08:31Matthew Cooper

Everton eye Amrabat

According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton have enquired about signing midfielder Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

Amrabat spent last season on loan at Manchester United, but the deal was not made permanent with the Red Devils instead focusing their efforts on Manuel Ugarte. However, it is claimed signing Amrabat will be a 'difficult deal' for Everton to pull off.

08:00David Anderson

McTominay latest

Manchester United have raised over £85million selling players and Scott McTominay is their latest departure, with possibly Jadon Sancho to follow him.

McTominay, 27, flew to Italy yesterday to have his medical over his £25million move to Napoli.

McTominay will end his 22-year association with United and the Scotland midfielder joined them as a five-year-old.

United are sad to see him go, but understand he wants more first-team football and Ugarte’s arrival would have pushed him even further down the midfield pecking order.

United identified Ugarte early in the window and feel he can be a star for them after he was named in the Best XI at this summer’s Copa America.

07:30Tom Victor

Ashworth's Sterling plan

Dan Ashworth has been working on a deal which would see Manchester United bring Raheem Sterling to Old Trafford without paying an initial outlay, it has been claimed.

With United already spending big on their new signings, though, Ashworth has recognised the need to be smart when it comes to any remaining deal. With Chelsea already making it clear Sterling would struggle for game time in West London, the ball appears to be in their rivals' court.

According to The Telegraph, United are determined to pay no outlay for Sterling. The aim comes against the backdrop of the expectation that Chelsea would cover the bulk of Sterling's wages to allow him to leave Stamford Bridge.

07:00David Anderson

Ugarte latest

Manchester United are finally landing Manuel Ugarte from Paris St Germain to take their summer spending to £200million.

Ugarte, 23, is becoming United’s fifth signing and the Uruguay midfielder jetted into Manchester yesterday to begin his medical.

He will sign a five-year contract at United, with PSG inserting a 10 per cent sale-on clause in his deal, to complete the club’s incoming business.

United are paying an initial £42.2million for Ugarte, rising to £51million, and the club are happy they have held firm to their valuation after pursuing him all summer.

PSG have omitted Ugarte from their squads for their opening two Ligue 1 games and the South American made it clear weeks ago that he wanted to move to Old Trafford.

Ugarte will follow Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthjis de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui into Old Trafford and United’s spending spree with cost them £200million with add-ons.
