Liverpool transfer news live - Kvaratskhelia plot, Hincapie deal, Bajcetic loan (2024)

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili, according to reports. The expected arrival of the Georgian goalkeeper would become their first summer signing. Mamardashvili will seemingly remain at Valencia until next season as the Reds close in on a deal worth over €30million (£25m) with the Spanish club.

The Reds are also being linked with plenty of names around Europe following the failure to lure Martin Zubimendi to Anfield. The latest reports have suggested that Marc Guehi is a player they admire.

The England international could potentially replace his international teammate Joe Gomez, who was left on Merseyside as he weighed up his options ahead of the transfer window closing last weekend. Newcastle United had agreed a £45m fee for the Englishman earlier in the summer, but that fell through as the Magpies secured their financial position without allowing Anthony Gordon to go the other way.

With Gomez considering his future, Liverpool have become the favourites to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite. According to bookmakers Sky Bet, the Reds are the favourites to snap up the young defender this summer. Manchester United have been keen on Branthwaite but have yet to reach the Blues' £70m valuation.

So, stay with us at the Liverpool Echo as we plate up all the latest news and transfer rumours!

Anthony Gordon hint?

Eddie Howe has refused to rule out the prospect of recruiting another forward before the end of the transfer window, offering Liverpool hope of a possible deal for Anthony Gordon.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the winger in recent weeks, seeing a deal come close to occuring, and it remains to be seen whether a late move is considered.

Newcastle will of course have to replace Gordon should he depart and Howe has hinted there could be arrivals at St James' Park.

"I have been in the game too long to make those statements," he said.

“What I will say is, from my part and the club’s part, we will do everything we can to keep our best players, but I am not a fortune teller. As managers, we learn to live with it in this world because we have to. But it’s not ideal, there is a lot going on.”

Alisson Becker confirms Saudi Arabia transfer interest and makes Liverpool contract vow

Some great news to end the day and give you some sweet dreams tonight, Reds fans!

Alisson Becker has spoken out about interest to take him to the Saudi Pro League this summer, confirming whilst it was there it was never truly an option he considered.

Instead, the Brazilian has committed to the Reds, his current contract, and even beyond. Even with the proposed signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili as a successor, the Liverpool goalkeeper endorses the club's preparations for the future.

Celta Vigo manager responds to Bajcetic question

As one of the loan suitors for Stefan Bajcetic, Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giraldez was asked about his supposed desire to take the midfielder for the campaign.

"It's possible like everyone else. The market is open and it is one more possibility," he gave as a response. "He is a player I know, that we have trained, he knows the house, and it is one more possibility. We'll see what's happening."

The final days of the transfer window could get intense...

Final result of the day

All Premier League matches are done for the day now after the conclusion of this evening's kick-off between Aston Villa and Arsenal.

It looked to be a strong test for Mikel Arteta's side, who lost there last season, though they scored twice late on after David Raya saves to win 2-0. Ollie Watkins also stabbed wide in front of an open goal in the first half.

It now means the two teams that finished ahead of Liverpool last season plus Brighton have won their two matches so far. Tottenham and Forest move ahead of the Reds with victory too, but Arne Slot and Co. have the chance to respond tomorrow against Brentford.

Juve 'positive' in Koopmeiners race

As they wait on an offer to be decided by Atalanata, Gianluca Di Marzio says Juventus are 'positive' about their chances of landing midfielder Teun Koopmeiners before deadline day.

However, should this confidence amount to nothing today's other rumours suggest Arne Slot and Liverpool could be there to capitalise...

Schumacher impressed by Koumas

More on Lewis Koumas' debut goal for Stoke City this afternoon, as his manager Steven Schumacher raved about the Liverpool loanee's performance in spite of defeat.

"On another day he gets a hat-trick, he takes the match ball and we come away with all three points," he said via sister site Stoke on Trent Live. "That's how close it is in this league, small margins determine the outcome of games.

"Lewis was great. He played as a single number nine, which he has done a few times but it's not his natural position. He looked really sharp for us. Their two centre-backs must have about 1,000 games in the Championship between them and it's Lewis' first start so you can't expect too much but what we did see was positive."

Interesting to see the young forward playing out of position yet still producing the goods...

More Bajcetic suitors

Earlier it was reported that Real Sociedad could emerge as a destination were Stefan Bajcetic to leave Liverpool on loan for the season. This follows Celta Vigo's name entering the equation.

But now according to Spanish outlet La Voz De Galacia, the La Liga pair would also face competition from Valencia. They and the Reds have of course already been at the negotiation table in recent weeks over Giorgi Mamardashvili.

In this report Villarreal's name is also mentioned, taking the total to four clubs. Looking to press on after an injury-hit 2023/24 campaign, is a loan the best move for Liverpool and the 19-year-old?

Loan watch

Also keeping an eye on action elsewhere, it has been a great afternoon for some young Reds gaining experience elsewhere this campaign.

Goals have been scored by Luca Stephenson and Lewis Koumas, the former helping Dundee United to a 2-0 win in Scotland and the latter grabbing an equaliser in Stoke City's eventual loss to West Brom.

Luke Chambers also completed the full 90 minutes of Wigan Athletic's 1-0 win against Crawley Town in League One, lining up in defence alongside James Carragher, son of Reds legend Jamie Carragher.

'Crazy' Eberechi Eze attempt?

Now, this would be quite the statement in the final week of the window...

Without a signing so far, the spotlight is firmly on Liverpool. If signing somebody, will it be a goalkeeper? A defender? A midfielder? Well, an exerpt from The Independent's latest 'Reading the Game' newsletter interestingly suggests it may be an attacker on the club's immediate radar.

It reads: "With [Eberechi] Eze, Palace are bracing themselves for bids from Liverpool or Manchester City. That has been said for weeks, however, as other clubs have complained the asking price is 'crazy'. Arsenal were one of those put off."

Teun Koopmeiners decision

For the second week running Teun Koopmeiners is not included in Atalanta's squad to take on Torino tomorrow. The Liverpool-linked midfielder has not travelled with his teammates.

However, providing a transfer update the latest word reafirms that the Dutchman 'only wants Juventus'. He is said to be waiting on his club's decision to accept a €59m (£50m) offer that arrived two weeks ago.

Premier League results

After that Brighton victory just mentioned, the Premier League's 3pm kick-offs have just now wrapped up with some interesting results confirmed.

After falling behind, Manchester City ended up 4-1 winners against Ipswich Town. Tottenham Hotspur also resoundly defeated Everton 4-0 in the capital. West Ham beat Crystal Palace, Fulham beat Leicester City and finally Nottingham Forest came out on top against Southampton, meaning there have been no draws after six fixtures so far this weekend.

As a result, there are now two sides to have won both of their opening games and Arne Slot's men slip down to sixth at this extremely early stage. Aston Villa v Arsenal looks to be another big match this evening before three fixtures tomorrow - including Liverpool v Brentford - wraps up the action.

James Milner breaking records again

Looking elsewhere as there has been no action at Anfield this Saturday, one match Reds supporters may have seen take place was on the South Coast this lunchtime. Brighton came up with a stoppage time winner to defeat Manchester United.

As well as it giving an insight into how to beat their bitter rivals next weekend, former hero of the club James Milner became the holder of a record Liverpool fans will love. The 38-year-old now holds the record for the most Premier League wins against United (12) of any individual player.

This follows up his achievement of becoming the only man to feature in 23 separate top-flight campaigns when taking to the field on opening day.

Another Liverpool sub as Kelly comes on for Morrison, who had been struggling a bit with a problem.

Could be cramp but it's enough for him to go off.

Controversy as it looks like Misciur gets the ball ahead of Golding but the referee gives a penalty. But Misciur guesses the right way and saves the penalty from Braybrooke diving to his left.

Into first-half injury time and it's still 1-1. The game has taken a while to get going but it's a lively one now.

Big chance for Nyoni to equalise for Liverpool

A first real sight of goal for Liverpool U21s as Nallo stretches to head wide a Norris free-kick.

Stefan Bajcetic transfer hint

Stefan Bajcetic's future at Liverpool continues to be the subject of speculation, and it seems there is increased interest in the midfielder.

Rumours in recent weeks have seen Bajcetic linked with a move away from Anfield.

HITC has reported that Real Sociedad could be in the running to sign Bajcetic as a replacement for Mikel Merino, who looks set to complete a move to Arsenal in the coming days.

Half-time for Liverpool U18s

It's half-time for Liverpool U18s in their U18 Premier League North game against Middlesbrough at the Acedemy in Kirkby.

A young Reds team has more than held their own but they conceded just before half-time to a well-worked goal when Bailey Palmer got in behind the defence and slotted home confidently.

Work for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side to do in the second half.
