Should you size up or down in New Balance shoes? ›

New Balance follows its own unique sizing practices, aiming to provide a comfortable fit for a wide range of foot shapes and sizes. While individual experiences may vary, it is generally observed that New Balance shoes tend to run true to size or slightly larger compared to other brands.

New Balance sneakers fit true to size, so we'd recommend that for most sneaker styles you take your normal size. Some shoes may have specific sizing notes, so check each product page carefully.

There is approximately a 1/6" difference between each half-size (e.g., between 9 and 9.5, between a 9.5 and a 10, and so on) For every half size up, the width (across the ball) will increase by 1/8"

New Balance sizing vs Nike and other brands

New Balance's sizing scheme is identical to that of ASICS and Brooks, as well as Saucony's men's sizing. There is a half-size difference with Skechers and a half-size to a full-size difference with Nike and Adidas.

The only time that you could wear a shoe in a bigger size is when purchasing a sneaker but you should only go up about half a size. The reason for this is that our feet tend to swell because fluid accumulates due to gravity with prolonged standing and weight baring activities.

I have very narrow New Balance running shoes to the point I can't stand wearing them. Will they loosen over time if I wear them? Nope. If I'm not mistaken, New Balance is one of the only athletic shoe makers offering shoes in various widths.

An 'H' fitting would be considered a wide shoe. Indeed, you can't get wider. An 'H' fitting could go along with a perfectly normal size like a size 5 or 6 dance shoe. Some shoe manufacturers of regular and dance shoes offer very narrow or very wide fittings for some styles.

New Balance is proud to offer many shoe models in multiple widths, from narrow (2A) to extra-extra-wide (6E). Just like people, feet come in all shapes. A proper fit means multiple widths, not just multiple sizes.

As a general rule of thumb, higher numbers reflect superior technology and quality. For the current most popular models, this number can be anywhere between 3 and 19. But don't be fooled by that. Some of the most comfortable sneakers are from the 5-series, like the 530 or New Balance's signature model 574.

Do Adidas and New Balance fit the same? New Balance sneakers tend to run a few millimetres bigger than Adidas.

What is better Nike or New Balance? ›

If you're seeking a classic design with a focus on comfort and functionality, New Balance might be your go-to brand. However, if you're after innovative designs, high-performance features, and are willing to pay a premium, you might lean more towards Nike.

You'll be glad to know the New Balance 327 does, in fact, fit true to size. So unless you have exceptionally wide feet or you're planning on adding a large insole for one reason or another, be sure to buy your normal size in this particular silhouette!

Another way to check this is to slip a finger between the heel of your foot and the heel of your shoe. There should be just enough space for your finger to fit nice and snugly. If your finger slides in easily with space to spare, you should probably go down a half size, while if it's a tight squeeze, go up half a size.

Fit: Generally, the New Balance 550 fits true to size but if you have wider feet you may want to go for a half size bigger than usual. Comfort: The New Balance 550 offers basic comfort that's reliable for long periods of use. Care: Simply use a cleaning wipe as most pairs are crafted from leather.

The New Balance 574 fits true to size. We recommend taking your usual size. Unlike some New Balance styles, you'll generally find that the New Balance 574 fits true to size. They have a relatively wide footbed and a roomy toe box, which means that they won't squish your feet, unlike some more narrow New Balance styles.
