Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters just a day before he was set to face Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening match. The world No. 3 raised injury fears when he wore strapping on his right forearm during his practice sessions at the tournament.

Alcaraz announced his late withdrawal in a social media post on Tuesday. "I have been working in Monte Carlo and trying to recover until the last minute from an injured pronator teres in my right arm, but it was not possible and I cannot play," he wrote.
"I was really looking forward to playing... See you next year!" It comes after a concerning training session on Monday, in which the 20-year-old struggled to hit his forehands.
Alcaraz was unable to grip the racket properly and mostly used the slice on his forehand, indicating that the forearm was causing him problems. Lorenzo Sonego will now take his place in the draw as a lucky loser to face Auger-Aliassime on Wednesday.

It's the second year in a row that Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters. Last year, the two-time Major winner skipped the event due topost-traumatic arthritis in the left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine.
It also means that Alcaraz has still never won a match in Monte Carlo. His only appearance came in 2022 when he received a bye into the second round and lost to Sebastian Korda.

Alcaraz will now hope to recover in time for next week's Barcelona Open, where he is the two-time defending champion. He is also the reigning title wonder at the Madrid Masters, winning the last two editions of the tournament.
The 20-year-old recently ended his eight-month title drought in Indian Wells, where he defeated Daniil Medvedev to retain his crown in a rematch of the 2023 final. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-final of the Miami Open but there was no indication that he was injured during the hard-court swing.
