Can’t wait to try this. I did it last week with Angel Food Cake mix and Lemon Pie filling and it came out great! What size apple pie filling did you use???

  • Ei

It’s just the two ingedients? Nothing more?

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      Yes!

  • Mel @ Trailing After God

You can also do this with a can of pineapple and it’s sooo good but I am allergic to pineapple so then I end up with a sore mouth. This is a great alternative!

    • Sara

A sore mouth from pineapple isn’t an allergy. The sore mouth is a result of the acid in the pineapple.

      • Cheryl

That is interesting to know Sara. I only have this issue with fresh pineapple, not canned.

  • Laura

What kind of pan do you use?

    • Valerie

===Laura, I used a bundt pan, but I think next time I will use a 9×13. Also, don’t use the time suggested for an AF cake…check it after 30 minutes….and then every 5 min or so….mine was way overbaked.

  • Rachel Young

Any tips on buying the angel food cake mix either on sale or with a coupon? Because every time I go to buy it, it is never included in the normal betty crocker cake mix sales and there usually isn’t a store brand available either. Any advice?

    • Carrol

I buy the angel food cake mix at the local Aldi’s. Always good results with it.

  • Lana Guerr

What is pan do we need?

  • Colleen

no water as instructed on the mix?

    • Budget Savvy Diva

      Nope

  • Christa

I made the angel food cake as instructed on the package (just add water) and then folded in the apple pie filling. My husband is in LOVE with this recipe! Thanks so much!!!

  • Susan

Please tell us what size pan to use.

  • Jonathan

If you want to know what pan to use… look at the box directions. She clearly says “Mix the to together and bake according to the box instructions”

    • Linda

      Don’t be mean, Jonathan!!

  • barb

I made this recipe for my church picnic this weekend. I added a caramel cream cheese frosting on top. It was a huge hit! Thanks so much!

  • Kay

This sounds great, any suggestions for a topping or way to spruce this easy recipe up looks wise?

  • Kay

Or maybe a good topping? Thanks! I love your website and easy recipes!

    • Carrol

Maybe some cinnamon sugar on top of the batter? A bundt cake would be fun with a little drizzle over it made from powdered sugar & a splash of milk.

  • Renee

I’m allergic to eggs, which are in the angel food cake mix, do you think any other type of cake mix might work with this?

[…] 2 Ingredient Apple Pie CakeBy Pintester on November 12, 2012 in Food & Drink One of the weird things about being friends or acquaintances with the Pintester is that you get to sample the pin tests sometimes. It’s EASY people!! One box of Angel Food mix. NO WATER. That’s why this is DIFFERENT. Add one can of apple pie filling, stir, bake, eat.

You can also use INSTEAD OF THE APPLES, a can of LEMON PIE FILLING, or a can of FRUIT co*ckTAIL.

Use your imagination and forget about amounts, size of pan, size of oven, or if you use a plate and fork to eat it. REEEEELAX. It’s not brain surgery.

    • girlcat7

      LOL!!

    • bobbie

      I love you littlelottajoy!

    • melissa

Oh this made me laugh! Thank you i needed that this morning. Anyway i was thinkin carmel drizzled on top would be fantastic! Or maybe whip cream…

  • Rebecca

I couldnt find Angle food cake mix while at the store but am wondering if I can use any other type of mix instead.

  • Sherry

Spice cake would probably be good with it too. I like the idea of the caramel topping.

  • Lori

Made cupcakes instead of a cake. Turned out great!

  • Holly

I did this last night with spice cake and apple pie filling and it came out just like apple pie! The only thing is with the spice cake I added a little oil and water because it wouldn’t mix properly and was coming out majorly powder with just the cake mix. Great super cheap recipe!

  • Ashley

Have you tried using peach pie filling? I’m going to give it a shot this weekend and take it to Easter Dinner. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is as good as the apple version. 🙂

  • Sheila M

Do you think this would work with the No Sugar Apple Pie Mix. We are both diabetic and this would make a great dessert. We can take a little sugar which I realize is in the cake mix. I may have to try it, will let you know how it comes out. Sheila

    • Watson

      It should work great 🙂

  • Janis Spear

We don’t have those exact brand names here, but I am SO going to try this. Looks wonderful. xxx

  • Kya

What size can of apple pie filling?

    • Watson

      It is about 21 oz

  • Sheila M

I used another recipe that called for Chocolate cake mix, (no sugar) cherry pie filling (no sugar) and three eggs. For us diabetics this was wonderful, will be trying it with other cake mixes and fruits.

  • Denise

Made it last night — just the contents in the box and what was in the pie filling can. Yep….I followed the directions. WOW!!! Very easy AND very tasty. Light and refreshing! How easy when company shows up unexpected. Definitely a keeper!!

    • Watson

I am so happy you liked it 🙂

  • Lisa

I chopped the apples in the pie filling so I got more apple bits in the cake. I also sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top before I baked it.

  • Georgianna

What kind of icing would you recommend?

  • Danielle

This sounds delish! Do y’all think a muffin pan would work? My concern is if the “muffins” will fall apart? I was thinking of using them as a quick breakfast side with oatmeal or something with my family.

    • Watson

Hmmm I would not try it

  • mary

do you know if can use fresh apples? was given lots of apples and need recipes to use them in?

  • Kathryn

How did you let it cool? I made this last night in a 9×13 and the middle sank and is less than an inch tall, the edge of the pan was almost half an inch taller than the pan. It tastes good, just a little dense where it sank in.

    • Watson

I cool it in the freezer

  • Allie Talley

I did this with lemon filling and loved it! But the apple’s also good!

  • D. Garcia

    Do I add the water?
